Nature is not always made accessible to children, so learning about biology, environmental issues, and the beauty of nature hands-on is not always possible. I know that as a child I was very fond of books with detailed images and enough text to describe the scene. With this idea in mind, I designed this children’s book as an assignment for a college course. As I spent a considerable amount of time illustrating, I thought it would be great to share this work in the hopes that a child or parent will be inspired to explore the outdoors and the curiosities of the natural world.
“A child’s world is fresh and new and beautiful, full of wonder and excitement. It is our misfortune that for most of us that clear-eyed vision, that true instinct for what is beautiful and awe-inspiring, is dimmed and even lost before we reach adulthood.”
— Rachel Carson, The Sense of Wonder
